Unseen Hero

He picked us up when were zero
Yet we fail to acknowledge our unseen hero
Mothers have a visible,tender,sensitive affection
Look closer, Fathers give you a special protection
His love shines of different quality
Silent,masked and Simple at times
We realise once we reach our primes
He nurtures you, watch you grow in style
If you haven’t recognised a father’s love
Where were you? All this while

From School admission to hourly classes to stressful bills
He seldom buys a new shirt, while getting you fanciful thrills
Sacrifice,Substance and Patience
Are as true for his remembrance
At every hurdle,he was a constant presence
He embraces you in every way
In his heart,we forever stay

As we encounter uncertainty in life
His advice may seem boring but wise
Let us all sense our Fatherly love
Truest form is acceptance in all color.

As his hair turns grey
All he needs is your assurance, not to astray
Let us all remember him everyday
Happy Father’s Day!!!

My relationship with Bluetooth, My Wife and mask.

“Don’t eat that Himalayan Salt Lamp”,I pleaded in desperation, exasperation with pulses of perspiration.Just like my bluetooth device, she simply refused to respond.Just another normal day in my life where my wife felt like eating salt lamp will save her time and energy to get up from bed.The Ingenious oriental Salt lamp, normal day and my wonderful wife. Readers of the day, fellow non-relatables and my vigilant secret judges, let me take you in my weird world filled with pockets of idiosyncrasies, misadventure and occasional normalcy.

3 things have always given me perplexing paranoia:dealing with my bluetooth head-set, wearing a mask in Mumbai and conversations with my wonderful wife.Yes,even I was surprised by how similar these 3 are in my life.My Eureka moment came in the year 2020 when I decided to buy a bluetooth device, get married and then oh! the pandemic happened and I had to wear a mask to go to work in this wonderful humid mood of my city.2020 continues to surprise me but not comparable to my wife`s antics like gaining immunity from eating salt lamp.Another beautiful thing about my salt lamp is not only the fact that it is my wife`s favorite breakfast but it is originally mined from a place in Pakistan. Interestingly, it was bought to bring peace in my room but now it is melting into pieces.

Mask is one of the most revolutionary movement that has happened, not only does it stop my breathing just like my wife, it also makes my ear grow if I put it on for long. And just like my wife and my government, mask doesn`t allow me to speak freely and people say its safe to wear mask(not sure about getting married). Even I am baffled by the similarity that cropped up everytime I think about mask, bluetooth and my beautiful wife.

Marriage is like bluetooth device, looks fancy from outside but as time expands, you realise it takes lots of efforts to make it work and sometimes not so funny thing is,you lose your vibrant voice as I did when I bought this bewilderingly confusing bluetooth headset after consulting my expert wife.I admire your bravery if you have ever got married and then bought bewildering bluetooth headset and spoken loudly.

On taking a harder look,I did manage to find some defining differences though.Unlike bluetooth device that only works within 10-12 m distance, staying miles away from your wife helps a ton.Yes,mask does support you and bluetooth helps you connect but when weather turns strange and connection falters, your level of comfort falls back to panicky comical state.Just like in marriage

Everytime,I wear a mask, talk to my wife and play around with my faltering bluetooth,I am reminded of this inspiring quote:”what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger” and I keep going strong with my 3 marvelous musketeers.

Another normal day in my life,as I look grimly at my non-functional himalayan salt lamp, half eaten lavishly by my better half, melting away slowly as is my hope for another peaceful day.

Pandemic has drastically changed the world, men & women moving around in mask and I am still searching for a perfect one.Oh No,not woman! a perfect mask .After doing extensive research on google:I decided to buy valve type mask in bulk:the day it arrived, government declared it illegal(just like 500 rupees notes).Just like my bluetooth headset and my wife`s mindset,I fail to understand such tragical comical unpredictable turn of events.Yet,another day vanishes,I happily plug in my bluetooth, put on my valve -less mask and fearlessly move out to catch a breath.

Just when it seemed things were returning to normalcy,my bluetooth device again refuse to connect, mask turned sweaty and watching my wonderful wife smile made me fear for the worst.

“Did you eat that Salt lamp again,I enquired politely

“No,I was suddenly curious to try gardening, went to balcony to stretch my hands and plant a new sapling when my unaware hand pushed an innocent flower pot down to the earth” she replied without an air of regret.

And the adventure continues, sapling was planted back on terrace and I tried my luck again with bluetooth device, my misty mask and my wonderful wife.

*hear a loud noise

“Did you drop that salt lamp ?”,I rambled with terror in my eyes.

Flower of Creation

Rare,divine and rapturous

Lotus of Creation(Brahma Kamal)

From a miniscule bud to a blooming flower

Amidst terrific thunder, lively lightening and shimmering shower

Like All beautiful Creation

This one takes time, tendering and attention

As years passed by,magic is denied

For my mind was always occupied

As White precious petals unfold

Musical mystic story is retold

Comes & goes every year like a blessing

Auspicious August Occasion

Worshipping is a blissful obsession

In this moonlight night,it shines bright

Flower of immense significance

Keeps away energies of pretence and perversion

In all pure presence,devotional form

Sensitive soul, sudden transform

Flower of creation

Came from abyss to spread light in infinite

Watching this grow, a soothing sight.

Ode to my gritty blue bag

Blue,bold and bright

Gritty grips,on shoulders,lovingly light

A loyal friend,A new flashy trend,a means to an end

Carries my essentials as I climb mighty mountains

Soaks up rains, brushes off dust, rarely relents

Perfect companion for my back as I roll down the hill

Smooth as a kiss, admirable in my thrill

In Office,my adventure field runs

My gritty blue bag, reliable and never shuns

Carrying my glasses,towel and masks

This seemingly miniature form,effortlessly multi-tasks

As I move out in Sun or try crazy courageous muddy run

My cute blue bag, always a part of fun

Brisk bruises, bold battles with mud and snow

Like our emotions, this one, fades on every low

Selfless love without a hint of desire

Just an ordinary wash and ready to fire

No downtime, always obliges in meanest of weather

It makes me feel,I can fly without a wing or feather

My blue, bold and boisterous bag, always with me,never lag.

Chance to Play

5pm,shoes,socks and hope inside

Taking his sizzling cycle ride

Carefully parks, walks and stand by the side

Smelling the grass, watching a thrilling game

Oh!He is not a part,what a shame

Everyday He watches in regret

Volleys, kicks and slangs on this dew kissed grass

Meekly makes an effort,a pleading sign

Ah,In hesitation, resign

He knows the bends, freekicks and razor reflexes

Why doesn’t he simply ask,is what perplexes

That day,it rained, something within him changed

He gathers courage,to mutter few syllables

Divine was amused by his incoherent babble, heroic yet hysterical

When the blue cap captain gave him a nod

A sign to wait,A glimmer of hope

A chance to play, that delicious dope

5pm,shoes,socks and excitement inside

Taking his steady subtle stride

He runs, reaches and waves at blue cap captain

Smelling the grass,watching the game

Oh,Finally a part,moment of fame

That eventful evening,he grabbed his chance

When Sturdy Sizzler fell into a trance

He entered with an uncomfortable stance

His tryst with football,a riveting romance

Blue cap captain in awe of his swivel and timing

I hope, story made sense with perfect rhyming

Alas! He got a chance to play

5pm,shoes,socks yet,a spirit that shone like a rising Sun

Fall in love again

As I stumble, slip and slow down in pace

I refuse to drown,effortlessly embrace

I can sense this unhealthy risky race

For the day will come again

When my efforts won’t wither away in vain

For now,I find comfort in devouring Twain

Let the words sink again, find a new alley

Life is in wonderful waves, with peaks and valleys

Shall flow again in rhythm and rhyme

Taking a break ain’t a cruel crime

I sit in quiet, contemplate, sipping a glass of lime

As I rejuvenate,recover and reveal

I touch upon this newly found zeal

First mildly, then wildly, immersed in ocean of words

I gently watch those cute colorful birds

I humbly receive, revive and recite my tunes

I wake up,whisper and wish for

Million magnificent moons

I flow with fervour, with a zest for life

For the day has arrived,I dive into those magical words again

Raindrops

This Noon,as glorious Sun is gently masked by notorious grey

On my terrace,I playfully lay

As the first drop from heaven, kiss my brow

Precariously, letting it flow, washing away tears of despair

Bring in health,happiness and hope

As Birds change their Song

I know where I belong

This season brings everything alive

Vibrance,virtue and vitality thrive

As I gaze at a bee-hive near my window

Deep in thoughts,a shock or blow

This first drizzle resolved my puzzle

A sign of prosperity

Nature yearns for respect and restoration of parity

I lose myself in this beautiful weather

Looking happily at a bird’s feather

Sipping a cup of tea

My heart expands to infinity

It calls for you and me to merge

My emotions experience a rythmic surge

As I take in the drops from above

Everything changes after the first shower

I vividly remember this glorious hour

When Nature bestows it’s true power

When an Agnostic visits a Sanctum

Scene 1: At Chennai Airport: 1 am, 27th June 2017

Me: Where do we go from here?

MyGoodfriend(MGF): Tirupati

Me: I know that man, but we will go there in the morning by bus.I mean of course, you must have booked an accommodation.

MGF(Unapolegtically): No, We can sleep in the airport

Me: Lounge?

MGF(In a jovial mood): Chairs.Anyways I can sleep anywhere

Me(Not in a good mood): I can`t sleep on chair for 5 hours

MGF(Laughing devilishly): No lounge at Arrival Area

Me: Gosh, No option left then

MGF: Chairs

After this conversation, I somehow managed to find a chair and spent 5 wakeful hours at the airport while MGF was snoring shamelessly at the adjacent chair.I wasn`t an insomniac by birth and but it`s friends like MGF that turned me into one.All I was doing the entire night was staring at the passengers waiting to collect their bags from the belts. After some time I started hating passengers , then belt and then the entire airport.

Finally Sun Rose at 6 am and I left the torture chair and stepped outside the port.I was fully exhausted after 5 hours of staring and MGF was fully energized after snoring for the same time.

MGF(Excited): We will travel by Chennai Metro.I heard Chennai Metro is awesome and World Class(Remember he snored for 5 hours)

Me: Do I have a choice?(That`s why I love solo trips)

Scene 2: Reached Bus Stand and Boarded Bus to Tirupati

I finally felt relaxed thinking now I can rest peacefully for 3 hours. But Sleep and I are never good friends. The Driver before starting the engine, turned on the TV in full volume(Normal for South Indian standards).Guess what movie he tuned into?.”Oh My God”, Yes that was the name of the movie and my reaction as well.A movie that mocks organized religion and here I was, going to visit the most pious sanctum of our country. What an Irony. When an agnostic visits a Sanctum, he is tested may be by God to believe in him and turn him into a theist.God was trying, but I was Stubborn.Continuous relentless loud sound waves coming from 24-inch screen kept me awake again. Finally, after 3 more hours of agony, I was relieved to reach Tirupati Alive.

We took a rickshaw(who of course overcharged us) to my other good friend`s(OGF) place in Tirupati where his marriage was supposed to happen.Met my friend, who was very happy and excited about his marriage(that was strange) and immediately instructed us to visit the Temple(He had bought us Vip tickets in advance to visit the deity). They say God sees everyone as equal. They lied.God favors you If you buy VIP ticket.Mobile phones are not allowed inside the sanctum. So, we left bare souled to the temple by taking a special bus.

I love temples on mountains. The view surrounding the sanctum was simply too good for my eyes to fathom.Security for the temple is higher than that at our borders. At one c heck point, entire bus is evacuated and each passenger is frisked(feels like immigration checks). We reached the place in 30 minutes.I was awestruck first by the crowd and then by the architecture of the temple.

Scene 3: Tirupati Balaji Temple

Let me tell you something about this pious place.Apparently lines to visit Lord Tirupati never actually gets over,24*7, 365 days a year.I know it` s insane.Just for a fleeting second of Lord`s darshan, devotees patiently wait, struggle, fall sick and somehow survive to reach the inner sanctum. One more thing, before entering, You must wear Dhoti(White colored pious cloth to replace Jeans/trousers in South India).”God hates people with jeans”.If you are lucky and bargain well, you will get a Dhoti for 100 bucks.

Now comes the most interesting part: The actual ordeal to reach the inner sanctum

Once you enter the temple, you get free sops(tea/coffee/milk) before you embark on your challenging journey.Once you enter the line, you can’t come out even if you want to.Men, Women, and children of all age groups keep pushing each other to move forward like waves.Children vomit, women nauseate, Men complain but they keep going. To manage such a huge crowd there is a fantastic group of volunteers to ensure devotees get food, water, and any emergency medical aid. There is one group whose purpose is only to push the devotees in the right direction. This is the most professional and well-managed organization I have ever seen.Stop learning from Google and Microsoft, Learn from Tirupati Trust folks.

Sometimes devotees have to wait for days to get a glance of their deity.”Faith can make us do anything”,I wondered. Finally after hours of fighting, pushing, screaming and sometimes yelling we reached the inner sanctum to get a 1 second glance of our deity.

Tirupati Darshan is rewarding both for those who believe in him and those who love sweets.Yes after the drama of worship is done, you are offered a huge laddoo(sweet and delicious dessert for an Indian). No one leaves empty handed from this place.
